Toad Lilies in the area?
I just bought one of each variety of toad lily they had at Plant Delights
today (at least, the purple and white ones), but am still looking for certain others. Big Bloomers has them for much less, BUT, they sell the Raspberry Mousse tricyrtis, and that is only so colorful and spotty because it has a mosaic virus, as some nurseries have verified and documented. (For the details, Google the following: Paradise nursery tricyrtis virus .) So, I don't want any tricyrtis from Big Bloomers. I want mine to remain what they are supposed to be. That's why I won't buy them on the half-price sale at Gurney's catalog sales either (they have Raspberry Mousee also). In the 70s, everyone in the nursery business was raving about an attractive new dieffenbachia, and it sold like hotcakes. Then growers realized it was really ordinary dieffenbachia infected with a mosaic virus that caused it to look very striking, but the infection was responsible for tremendous losses in the industry, at least in central FL where there are a LOT of nurseries. Don't want to go back there. I am specifically looking for Amethystina and Empress. If you have seen these cultivars anywhere in the area, where? Thanks! laurie (Mother Mastiff) |
