What newsreaders do people use?

Dave

Late entry!

I use OE and a free newsreader called Xnews available for download at
http://xnews.newsguy.com/

This program is far better than OE at decoding multipart binary postings and
also supports yEnc file compression which OE does not.

Cheers

John

I'm planning to write an article on the orchid newsgroups, & usenet in
general,
for our society newsletter. What newsreaders do you all like?

I use Google Groups for all my text Usenet reading. As this is a
website it may be easier for newbies to understand.

Forgot to mention that Google Groups has a more or less COMPLETE
ARCHIVE of usenet. I found posts of mine on orchids dated 1994!

For definitions of complete that include munged or missing headers.

Thanks for that. I had no trouble finding text newsgroups. But I couldn't find
abpo?

Binary groups are not carried by Google. I use a paid service
Easynews.com for that (our ISP has dropped Usenet!).

Hi Dave,

Google only provides access to text newsgroups so that's why you can't find the
ABPO group.

If your ISP's news server doesn't carry ABPO, you would need to setup an account
with a newsgroup provider.

I've used several over the years, but have been very happy with the Newsguy.com
service. They have accounts that cost as little as $3/month, and most of them
include mailboxes so you don't have to post with your ISP/personal email
addresses.

You can connect to them with any newsreader (OE, Agent, etc.) and they also have
a web browser interface similar to Googles. Just my $.02 :)

I didn't see a mention of Unison from Panic Software. It's Mac only.

Hi Alan,

Not sure if you were asking about Unison being supported by Newsguy. If so, you
can connect to Newsguy with any newsreader program, Mac or Windows.

My buddy is a Mac user and has used both Thoth and MT-Newswatcher with Newsguy's
service.
