AYURVEDIC BOTANICAL MEDICINE with Orest Pelechaty, OMD

This workshop by one of the most prominent practitioners and teachers
of herbal medicine on the East coast consists of lectures on the
History of Indian botanical medicine; Current developments and System
of classification; Herbal energetics (Rasa, Virya, Vipaka, Prabhava);
the Six Tastes; Methods of preparation (Pancha kashaya); Commonly
used single herbs (approximately 70 species); Commonly used multiple-
herb formulations; Herbs and herb formulations classified by actions
& systems affected (alternatives, astringents, bitters, diaphoretics,
diuretics, emmenagogues, demulcents, expectorants, nervines,
antispasmodics, stimulants, tonics, soporifics, sudorifics,
relaxants, analgesics, antipyretics, antiparasiticals &
antihelminthics, antibiotic herbs, carminatives, laxatives &
purgatives, digestives) (NOTE: This is a credit-bearing course in our
New Jersey Institute of Ayurveda's practitioner training program.
Registrants desiring credit for this course will be subject to an
examination.)

Course Instructor: Orest V. Pelechaty, M.Sc., O.M.D., C.A., AHG
Dr. Orest Pelechaty is Instructor in Ayurvedic botancial medicine.
Dr. Pelechaty earned his B.A. in psychology at Rutgers University,
his Master's degree in acupuncture and traditional medicine from the
Tri-State College of Acupuncture and the degree of Doctor of Oriental
Medicine from the California Acupuncture College in 1986. He has
served on the board of the American Association of Oriental Medicine
(AAOM) and as chairman of its herbal medicine committee. He is a
frequent guest lecturer at local universities and has appeared on
both radio and television. Dr. Pelechaty has taught at Saint Barnabas
Medical Center, the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey,
the Eastern School of Acupuncture & Traditional Medicine and at the
American Herbalists Guild.

Dr. Pelechaty has completed post-doctoral studies in
Korea and has recently established a holistic clinic at the Tibetan
Buddhist monastery in Himachal Pradesh, India. He is certified by the
American Herbalists Guild in Chinese, Western and Ayurvedic herbal
medicine and is the author of numerous professional publications in
the realm of phytotherapy.
