Aloe vera - sensitivity to frost
Hi,
does anyone know HOW sensitive Aloe vera is to frost? All information I find is that is does not endure frost - without further details. Will already -1/-2 °C do harm? Thanks for info! Dieter |

Aloe vera - sensitivity to frost

Thanks for info! Dieter Hi, Dieter. I have cultivated, nurtured and shared Aloe Vera since I was 12 yo; 47 years. My first job was in Weslaco TX (semi-tropical) at a nursery that now markets Aloe worldwide. I came to Dallas TX in '78 bringing Aloe with me. It prefers alkaline to neutral soil with rich humus. Do not let it chill below 34 F. Provide plenty light through winter and let soil dry between waterings. In spring move it outside to shade for the first 3 weeks. Semi-shade is preferred over all day direct sun during summer, especially since the solar spectrum has changed consonant with the atmospheric and solar magnetic changes during the past 6 or so years. If you wish to speed propagation: When new shoots are 1 yo flush soil from Aloe container with garden hose, carefully divide plants with sharp knife, repot at original depth and orientation to soil. Water sparingly. HTH. Enjoy! -Echosyn |
