Peltigera neopolydactyla?
Is this lichen Peltigera neopolydactyla:
http://www.danbbs.dk/~gro_poul/billedkasse.htm The foto is from 2003.06.14 from Alleroed - ca. 15. km. N. Copenhagen, Denmark, in a former military area. It grows on calcerous (?) gravel covered with 2-4 cm. humus. If I am right, it is at new species for Denmark. Poul Evald Hansen |

It grows on calcerous (?) gravel covered with 2-4 cm. humus. If I am right, it is at new species for Denmark. Did you keep dried specimens? If not, can you find it again? If so, you probably should send them to a lichen expert [perhaps one who has recently published something on systematics of Peltigera], or to a lichen herbarium, for positive ID. Such specimens will likely be needed to document any important new distribution records. Searching for "Peltigera neopolydactyla" didn't find too much of value, but see: http://www.nawwal.org/~mrgoff/photoj...8frogpelt.html http://www.nps.gov/olym/crypto/L_PENE.htm http://www.lichen.com/bigpix/Pneopolydactyla.html http://www.lutzonilab.net/data/12MiaLutz_IJPS2000.pdf http://www.toyen.uio.no/http/Alexei_...ltigerales.doc http://www.toyen.uio.no/http/Alexei_...e%20Dumort.doc http://ibot.sav.sk/SBS1/bull21.htm http://www.toyen.uio.no/botanisk/sommerf/sm_abstr.htm says: "Holtan-Hartwig, J. 1993. Abstract: New data about the chemistry, ecology and distribution of two species belonging to the Peltigera hymenina group (Peltigera melanorrhiza and P. neopolydactyla) are given for Europe. A new chemotype within P. melanorrhiza is described and this taxon is recorded as new for continental Europe. A discussion about the P. neopolydactyla morphotypes and chemotypes is given, its distribution area is shown to extend towards temperate and oceanic areas in southwestern Europe. Language: Swedish; Non-English Language of Summary: English; Swedish Abstract: Peltigera monticola Vitik., previously only known from southern and central Europe, has been found in subalpine birch forest in Lycksele lappmark (c. Lappland), Sweden. P. didactyla var. extenuata is reported from several Swedish localities and is suggested to be approved as an indicator of forest sites with conservation values. P. occidentalis, usually treated under P. neopolydactyla agg., is reported from subalpine birch forest in northern Sweden. The characters used to separate these three taxa from their closest allies are presented. Furthermore, P. degenii and P. neckeri are reported as new to Lycksele lappmark.
