Buying fish on line
Has anyone ever bought Fish on line? I asked someone this one time and I
was told "would you buy a cat in a sack? Then why would you buy fish on line?" (I realized this is comparing apples to oranges but I understood his point.) IF you did buy on line, can you tell me about it and where you purchased from? Thanks |

I once purchased a butterfly koi from Lilypons 11-12 years ago. That's when
shipping wasn't too outrageous. I got this guy at the smallest size they sold at the time. I still have that fish today, and it is one of the nicest healthiest (knock on wood) fish in the pond. It has the most gorgeous fins of any butterfly I've yet to see, and I didn't even get to see a picture of it. ~ jan ------------ Zone 7a, SE Washington State Ponds: www.jjspond.us |

Yes, there are a few places they can even show you a picture (more expensive ones).
Brett's koi is one place. http://www.brettsfishfarm.com/ On Tue, 8 Apr 2008 16:35:43 EDT, Peter Pan wrote: Has anyone ever bought Fish on line? Perhaps I misunderstand, since that is what we were talking about? I guess I'll be learning more now that I have a designated GF only pond, as I was under the impression GF would breed all season long. ~ jan ------------ Zone 7a, SE Washington State Ponds: www.jjspond.us |

"~ jan" wrote in message ... Carol, I'm surprised you mix your koi & GF since you were selling the babies as koi. I haven't had GF with the koi in several years. The GF I have are all behind the house in 720g above ground tanks. I never sold baby GF or hybrids as koi fry. It's easy to tell the difference between koi and GF fry, even at an early age. Perhaps I misunderstand, since that is what we were talking about? I don't recall a thread about selling baby GF as being koi?!?! I do see a thread about GF harassing female koi and added that I did not have that problem in my ponds. When my GF were in the ponds with the koi they both spawned with their own kind. I saw no cross-breeding. I guess I'll be learning more now that I have a designated GF only pond, as I was under the impression GF would breed all season long. ~ jan Mine didn't. Nothing about selling hybrids. When my GF were in the ponds with the koi they both spawned with their own kind. I saw no cross-breeding. Interesting and very unusual, imho. Mine didn't. My brief experience with GF was that they would breed with any female put
in the pond that was gravid... or even appeared to be gravid (full of eggs). I'll be watching my GF pond, but I suspected once the females are spawned that will be that, but if I were to put a new fish in, the males would chase it if it appeared to be full of eggs. I have noticed lots of nudging thru the summer with them, and when they've been brought in to the tanks in the winter. My koi, otoh, are spring only, if that.
