I spent a few hours at Home Depot today and then back home to use the rest
of my "sick day" finishing off my turtle pond. Well of course it didn't
look as good as I would like today, I think I was "settling" yesterday just
because I was so exhausted. But today, even though it was raining and
everything was mud, I removed the rock border, removed the liner, and
started digging some more! I made the island smaller and lower, and made
the outer edges a little sharper, and the deep hole a little deeper. I was
covered in mud, but I was actually having a good time knowing that I was now
close to "perfection". That is, UNTIL I put the liner back in! With my
new modifications, I am now short by a couple of inches on the width!!!!!!
Talk about frustrating! I'm sure I'm not the first person this has
happened to, but after digging yesterday in that heat, and digging today in
non-stop rain and mud, I was hoping for a little more "happy ending". I had
to give up and walk away before I did something stupid like throw a tantrum
and destroy the whole thing. OK, (taking deep, calming breaths....) is
there a way to easily and safely join liner? I have a little leftover
lengthwise, and I'm a little short widthwise, so it would be great to be
able to cut off some extra and attach it to the side where I'm short. And
it wouldn't be in a place where water would even be hitting it, it would be
right where the liner comes out of the hole and lies under the rock border.
What does one use to join liner? I'd like something that sets fast, as
I'm getting real impatient. I was hoping to go reward myself with a turtle
this weekend, but now it looks as though that plan can't happen. HELP

Home Depot carries a liner tape in the pond section for this purpose.

I assume your liner is EPDM. If so, there are splicing materials
(two-sided liner tape) available that will do what you wish. I am not
sure if Home Depot carries this tape, but you can find it online at
any number of pond liner sources, including http://www.pondliner.com.

Actually, I'm very glad you mentioned that, because I forgot to! No, it's
not EPDM, it's the new Xavan liner by Tetra. Supposedly much stronger
while being much lighter, and able to withstand nails, etc. I wonder if the
seaming tape would still work??????

Tetra makes a double stick tape. Why don't you call them and
find out before you actually buy the tape.

Sounds to me like some strategically placed rocks and plants would make this
a nice entry area for the turtles...Maybe you don't need anymore liner?

Unfortunately, the turtles aren't going to be allowed on the ground outside
the pond......they are going to bask in the CENTER of the pond. Therefore,
it wouldn't be an entry for them, it would be an EXIT! And yes, some
strategically placed rocks would definitely do the trick, Lord knows I am
the master of that from my BIG pond, but unfortunately again, the area where
I'm coming up short is also right where the pond butts up to a chain link
fence, and I only have about 6 inches of ground there. So, I was going to
have to be "clever" in placing a small rock there since any bigger and it
will be falling in the pond, so "strategic" won't work on such a narrow
ledge. Glad I didn't go to the casino - the odds were all against me.
