Default What to with plants over winter??

We live in Idaho, so we have cold winters with snow. We have always cut our
plants back and placed them on the bottom, and for 2 years they have came back.
We cut the lilies back also. As far as the water lettuce, hyancinth and
parrot feather, you might as well toss them and get new in the spring. We have
a friend that tried to keep hyancith in her garage in a bucket, but it didn't
work. We also put a trough heater in our pond to keep it from freezing
completley over.
