Planting a rose bush+cremated ashes?
 

Hi guys,

Our dog was put to sleep 3 weeks ago, we had him privately cremated and thus
we have his ashes. We were thinking of planting a rose bush in his memory.
This might be a stupid question, but if I add the ashes to the soil I use
for the rose bush, will it "ruin" the planting phase?

Ashes are usually very alkaline! Where do you live? If your soil
conditions are already a high pH it is probably not a good idea. However if
your soil is acid the ashes will help raise the pH.

Emil, so sorry to hear about your dog. I think you are doing a very lovely
thing. I think ash is alkalizing so if you have acid soil now, it may help
the rose.

I am in Southern, CA, zones 9-10. I have great luck (knock on wood) growing
roses, so my soil is pretty good.
