Pat--trying to grow roses in too little sunlight is an exercise in
frustration. They need sun--at least 6 hours full sun a day--in order
to really thrive. Otherwise you usually get plants that do not die but
do not bloom either.

There are people who grow roses in semi-shade, but their results are
less than spectacular. Do a Google search on "roses shade" and you
will see.

Why not plant them in sun? Don't have a sunny place? Got a chainsaw?
