New canes from the bud union
Has anyone had any success in getting roses to start new canes from the
bud union? Thanks |

This type of new growth is usually refered to as a
'basel/basil break'. For most growers of grafted roses it is the most desirable growth. Epsom salts are believed to encourage 'basil/basel breaks' as well as scraping away any heavy 'bark' from the graft area, and exposing the graft/bud union to direct sun light after the danger of frost has past.
