Yep, in some countries, today. But 30 years ago, these weren't a problem but the JWs still objected. They quote some ambiguous anti-canibalism passage from the Bible. The practice of giving some of your own blood a couple of weeks prior to the operation sounds very sensible But I guess some would regard this as "auto-canibalism" This autologous transfusion is OK for elective surgery. I doubt it is cost effective to store folks blood for emergencies. There are many more alternatives to wholeblood transfusions these days. My view is to stay clear of the lot of the *******s |
