I know Central Market North sells what they advertise as "homegrown
tomatoes". They also have a wide selection of heirloom tomatoes. So he
could actually buy what he wants quite easily albeit for $$. I presume
the South Central Market has the same inventory but have never set foot
there.

CM south has some Ugly Ripes, too.

I disagree. My dad grows tomatoes in NY. At the end of the season, he picks
all of the green tomatoes and allows them to ripen on a table in his
basement or garage. They taste almost as great as the ones picked ripe. And
they taste waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than anything grown in this heat. They
have much meatier flesh...about 5/8 inch or more thick...and have a very
bold sweet taste. I have grown tomatoes here (Romas, cherries, and round),
but gave up.

I have never had a tomato down here that taste like those, even from
farmers' markets. Though I would love to find them.
