Giant kernal corn cross
This next spring I am going to try sometning that succeded many years
ago with "cross-breeding" wild and domestic corn. I had Great Northern next to ( alternated with) multi colored Indian Corn ( Eridanus corn) and when the 12 week period was over, I noted ONE BIG stalk on the north outer edge had cossed with the Indian corn ( or visa versa) and two ears were about 18 inches long with corn kernals as big or bigger than the outer diameter of my large thumb nail! HUGE! This seemed to correspond with some that I had seen advertised from deep in South America? I was never able to replant it as we left the area inside of 90 days. ( I started to contract Aerospace engineering around the country) I am going to try again this summer her in texas, even though the altitude isn't as high! Someone else may want to try the same?? Indian Corn ( blue generally) is very nutritious whereas the common yellow and white corns are barely mentioned in any nurient break down in the encyclopediae much less on the www. It would be interesting if a few of us could try, say next summer, to duplicate the feat and come up with a newer type of corn with giant kernals?? We could stay in touch and see what could be accomplished?? There is quite an history here going back a few thousand years...and we could test the supposed stories about the "Katchina" that brought corn and maize to this hemisphere and to its natives?? ( I can name them but that's another story all-together.) LOL! B-0b1 -- "Beaten Paths are for Beaten People". -- Anon. |
