Default Petrol Mix - Critical?

Hi
Just having aquired a petrol hedgetrimmer off Ebay
(no manual) i have a dilemma
Is the percentage of the mix THAT critical, or can i get
away with assuming that the correct mixture is 50:1

It's not very critical but I think I'd go for more oil than that,
maybe 25:1 or 30:1 as that will provide more lubricant.

Sometimes the mix is 30:1. It wont hurt to make yours 30:1 just to make
sure. Or, you can get on the internet and type in the name of your trimmer
and see if they will provide you with the correct information.

Visit the maker's website - it could matter.

30:1 'til you get manufacturer's info.
Most modern ones are 50:1 with *good quality* oil specified for use at 50:1.
Much cleaner and more environment friendly.

Pity it wasn't available in the '60s: the Ariel Arrow and Leader would
have been a lot more popular.

g'day teleman,

this question gets asked a lot around the net, my advice as it is
always from my experience as a small engines mechanic and that advice
is use the manufacturers recommended mix be it 25:1 or 50:1 if you
want reliability from the machine. best way to find out for you
machine is ask a reapir shop near you about that model, or go to the
web page of the manufacturer.

and for me the best oil is and has always been castrol 2t oil.

With peace and brightest of blessings,

len

Ah. Smokey jo's. That brings back memories, late night tune-ups of friends
Golden Arrows, Great Chertsey Road burnups against new fangled Yamaha's
(often ending back at the garage for new pistons)... I remember it well.
