Default spring bulbs up

Hi

I did plant my spring bulbs earlyish this time, and the mild weather has
made them shoot, several are above the surface one is 6 inches tall !! -
will I lose these when the frost sets in ?

Not unless they're some tender exotic.

Russia's a *BIG* place.

If you put them in as bulbs, be prepared for some disappointment in the
spring, assuming they behave like our native ones. They prefer being
transplanted in the green.

Russia's a *BIG* place.

And *ALL* of it gets colder than here, thanks to us being kept warm by the
Gulfstream.

Even Vladivostok

In the FSU Baku has January temperatures comparable to the UK's, so I'd
guess that the same might be the case for bits of Turkmenistan as well.

Sochi (Black Sea coast of Ciscaucasia) looks as if it doesn't get colder
than the UK.

It is the chief Russian port on the Pacific (kept open in winter by
icebreakers),

Yes, but, as you know of course, dry cold and wet cold are very
different. Many of our favourite garden bulbs come from places with
severe winters, but drier than most of the British Isles.
