The Met Office gave a 69% probability of a very cold winter. Maybe Ken
believed them.

from what I read they said 'coldest in the last 10 years'. Which isnt that
cold.
Not sure where he got the 62/3 from, unless thats been misreported.

Anyway, whatever 'metcheck' say, here is what the Met Office is saying

Our predictions continue to indicate a colder than average winter for much
of Europe. If this holds true, parts of the UK - especially southern
regions - are expected to have temperatures below normal."

So it seems they havent changed their forecast...yet?

I was hitch-hiking to the Highlands when the blizzard started.
Fortunately, it started in the south and worked its way up the country,

Interesting that you had snow at Christmas. We were in Leicester during this
Winter and the bad weather started with a severe and very white frost on
Boxing Day 1962. The snow came later, but the temperature didn't go above
freezing until nearly Easter and it felt quite warm then!!

of a colder than average winter to an 80% probability of an average or
warmer than average winter. As to whether we get hit by cold European
weather, that all depends upon how active the Atlantic remains.
