SISKINS
I'm almost certain I saw a siskin on the niger feeder in the garden
today! Has anyone in SW London experienced them in their garden this year? Cheers, Joe -- |

I have not seen any this year in Dublin yet but I used to get them in the garden in Cork (Irish south coast) every winter in small numbers. They are cute and distinctive (small round yellow (greenish yellow) finches with wee black bibs and caps on the males). Cheers, Joe -- |

Cheers, Joe -- This page from the RSPB includes a map of siskin sightings in the UK in 2004. They were recorded in 14,000 gardens altogether. With London and the S.E showing the second lowest percentage at 3% to 7% of sightings, amongst gardens keeping a record. With the highest 82% to 100%, in gardens in the Highlands of Scotland and Northern Ireland. http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/200...tsidetop20.asp Presumably most of those taking part in the survey, will already be among those most likely to be leaving out suitable food for a variety of birds. michael adams .... |
