Like the man said, I don't beleive it !!
As someone who is completely unable to pass a bookshop without getting
withdrawal symptoms, yesterday I spent a happy hour mooching through the stock of the big Waterstones store in Nottingham. There, in the Gardening dept, I was utterly floored to come across a big display of a specialist book on growing and processing CANNABIS of all things !! I couldn't believe it !! It was about 20mm thick, beautifully printed and illustrated, very professional, and it covered everything from sourcing seeds, propagation, heat, light and ventilation requirements, setting up growing systems in domestic or commercial situations, hydroponics, harvesting and processing, pros and cons of different varieties etc, etc. In fact everything one needs to know about running a (illegal ?) cannabis nursery business. Its a mad, mad world........and its getting scarier as each day passes. capstan. Too naive for this century. |

We don't do the stuff, but one of our daughters did at the time, and all her friends came round to admire it. We were really cool for a while, I've never had that much cred before. We were going to let it flower, just to see what it was like, but one of the admiring experts suggested harvesting the 'budding', ie the tips just before flowering. We did, and after drying in the airing cupboard, it fetched £100! At that I think we were probably ripped off, but we couldn't really go to trading standards about it. Not bad for one plant though, obviously I'm in the wrong business. There's a (not very good)picture of the plant on our site, on the last page- http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/steveandmaggiesplot |

Said to be highly nutritious. See http://observer.guardian.co.uk/foodm...342293,00.html and featured recently on local west country TV. Google for "hemp oil" for more links. -- Chris E-mail: christopher[dot]hogg[at]virgin[dot]net |

Women folk took it for "that time" of the month, made with a tea, and menfolk when they couldn't "do their services" could dry some and smoke it in a pipe" I was floored! (and this was when I was about 16-17) and by the way, at my local music/cd/dvd used and new shop, in the books and magazine section, there are 15 books on cultivation, considering it's illegal. personally, it's better for you and not nearly as bad as the other REAL drugs........crack, meth, heroin...never heard of anyone overdosing on smoking pot, or killing someone (some maiming when revenue agents would happen upon crops around here in the hills would be shot at or trip a booby trap..............) but mostly, harmless, unless you consider the horrible after affects of the munchies when you've oversmoked......and then, heavens! you fall asleep.....yeppers, marijuana is baaaaaad for you! Following up on my comment about hemp being grown in Devon for oil production, today's edition of On Your Farm (BBC Radio 4, 6.35-7.00) was entirely devoted to this farm. Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/onyourfarm.shtml to hear it again. -- Chris E-mail: christopher[dot]hogg[at]virgin[dot]net |

Its a mad, mad world........and its getting scarier as each day passes. A swift search on amazon.co.uk gets 72 hits for books on Cannabis, with growers' guides the commonest subtype. Growing Cannabis is legal in California, the source of many of the books. In the UK it's technically not legal to do what the books describe, but in a landmark court case a jury found that if Agatha Christie could tell us how to kill people, Cannabis enthusiasts could tell us how to grow weed. I'd like some of the ornamental varieties from the Netherlands. -- Sue ];( |

The program was based in Birmingham. Part of it showed the local council's allotments officer taking possession of a single stray cannabis plant. When he reported it to the police they responded, immediately, by sending a rapid response team. There are a lot of elderly people around where I live (in Birmingham). When the local hoodies are terrorising them the best the police can manage is to send someone in a few days - if they bother sending anyone at all. -- Crazy Dog (Thinking someone has their priorities very wrong) |

In terms of the most damage done to the average user it would make infinitely more sense to treat a packet of cigarettes like that. Every new academic year I am dismayed to see a new batch of the country's best-educated kids puffing away. You'd have thought that the first time they came home from a smoky pub or club and their clothes stank the house out, would have been sufficient to warn them off ever actually deliberately inhaling the stuff. If ever a viciously addictive drug needed taking seriously as an "Assassin of Youth" ....... http://images.google.co.uk/images?sv...+of+y outh%22 Though I would never condemn the poor nicotiana plant for people's weaknesses... I recommend n.sylvestris for its spectacular "triffid-ness" - grows from a dust-like seed to a giant in a couple of months :- http://www.backenundkochen.de/garten...sylvestris.jpg And for evening fragrance - nothing IMHO beats n.affinis - especially in combination with another solanacea - Brugmansia :- http://www.brugmansia.pwp.blueyonder...gfragrance.JPG .. |
