Advice on what plant to buy?
Hi
I have an area in my garden where I'd like to plant 'something'. Our soil has a lot of clay in it, the area is also mostly shaded. On a wander round the garden centre (where a lot of the plants don't tell me what they need!) I can't find anything suitable. I'm after something that's evergreen and will flower. A small tree or shrub would be fine. Can anyone point me in the right direction, Thanks, Mandy |

how big do you want it to get?
Virbinum Tinus would go there and flower but can get quite large (dark green leaves, white flowers late winter/early spring, attractive pinkish buds in winter). -- Hayley (gardening on well drained, alkaline clay in Somerset) |

how about "Christmas Box" - Sarcococca humilis. The (small white) flowers
are not very noticeable but are highly scented. It flowers in winter and will stand some shade. Or vinca (major or minor) - periwinkle - this is a sprawling thing but comes with various leave colours and various (mainly pink/purple) flower options. -- Hayley (gardening on well drained, alkaline clay in Somerset) |
