about the same size as a hailstone.

Isn't it funny how no one ever says, "we've just had hailstones the size of

tha't because teh big ones are not round adn the small round ones are
hailstone size so you'd be saying "we've just had hailstones the size of
hailstones" :)

That's because the big ones can cause serious damage - our Company car
needed a new roof after being caught in an overnight hail storm in France
last summer. The nice shiny roof had the texture an appearance of hammerite!

On the way home from Scotland to Yorkshire last night we saw the most
stunning lightning displays, horizontal forking in various colours. It was
horribly hot though, until we got home when it rained the sort of rain you
don't get often but is very good at clearing and freshening the air.

And making vegetables shoot up :-)

Back in the 1970s, my car needed a new bonnet and bootlid, and repairs to
the roof, after a hailstorm. The cold frames in the garden were also smashed
by the hailstones, which were much bigger than marbles - some of them seemed
to be a couple of inches in diameter.

It's sort of little drops of water, which for some reason, now and again,
fall out of the sky, if you have a little patience, and if you keep looking,
you might, one day, see some.

It's an experience not to be missed!

Here in North Staffordshire it rain very heavily. Not unexpected I
spent the early morning watering all tubs, pots and newly planted trees.
Never mind the water butts have been replenished.

Our children once complained that they'd lost a marble in the garden.

OIn day I was digging and found a marble.

"I've found it!" I called. They were pleased.

That was thirty odd years ago.

Now, very frequently when I trowel (not dig) the garden I find a marble. I
always call, "I've found it!" Spouse always knows what I mean.

The children are long gone. The marbles are forming a l-o-n-g line along a
windowsill.

Where DO they all come from? And why don't grandchildren want them?

But don't waste it!

Place butts to collect it forom roofs, buckets and bins everywhere else.

It does wonders for vegetables.

And no doubt flowers but I don't care about those :-)

What a nice little story Mary, my six year old grandson has just
discovered the joys of marbles, his hands are not quite
big enough to master the action required but I am sure he will learn
soon enough :-)

Bristols the size of hailstones in marble would have been worse - probably a

Probably not for men with marbles for stones, or even stones the size
of marbles. And, of course, there are a lot of both sexes that have
lost their marbles.
