Default Insect Identification

I was picking runner beans and was about to pick this one - when it moved!
It looks like some sort of huge grasshopper.
We've got lots of small grass hoppers in the lawn but this critter was
around 4 inches long from the tip of its antenna to the tip of its pointy
looking tail! I got it down onto the ground and tried to take a picture of
it against a ruler for scale but it kept jumping and flying a couple of feet
away and
finally disappeared into a bush.
Please don't tell me I've got locusts to contend with here :-(
