It's wonderful. I had started to print her post to give to a couple of americain friends, to make them feel less homesick. I like when Farm1 gives her opinions from Oz - who knows where we will be in the future? I keep in touch on a French forum too and just love reading stuff from abroad. I think you pick up on what interest you and it needs to be varied, especially in backgrounds, cultures and ages. The latter is very much what has caused problems here I think. Also it's important to not unjustifiably poke at people. We just don't know who the other posters are, what they do etc. and poking at people's lives is a sure way to start flames. I am probably guilty in answering back if you try to hurt me, but that's my nature and on the whole it is human nature. I don't like lies and I don't like people assuming things about others. I am not a professional gardener, I am a keen grower of anything which wants to grow, preferably edible, I work with urban designers and landscapers and spend most of my free time on my plot, on other's plots, in local groups building from yurts to geodesic domes for local school to grow stuff under, care for other people's garden and get involve with anything permaculture. I'm out there and that's where I like to be :o) |

This is my first forray into a Newsgroup, but I have for many years subscribed to a couple of email lists centred around another hobby of mine. One is UK based but has several international members, the other is international by name yet most members are US based. Both and particularly the UK list wander off topic all the time which again is not a problem to me as I enjoy reading the other interests of a group of like minded people joined by a common interest. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others who may be new to the topic, and even now after 10 years membership I still learn new things from old and new members alike. My first reading of this NG gave me some very usefull information on pruning yew trees, I look forward to picking up more usefull tips to help me look after this big old garden I have taken on. I will admit to being a bit of a petrol head and look forward to contributing to any debates on power garden equipment. No, ask a question and you will/should get a number of sensible answers, but as in all newsgroups there are a few who like to stir people up. Just ignore then and add them to your killfile then you do not have to read their comments, ever. The only problem comes when some silly asses respond, then you do get to read the rubbish. I can remember several spats in the past which developed into relatively prolonged stroppy exchanges - names such as Andy M and Alan H come to mind and there was a 'Morley' (sp) who used to get very exercised about leylandii.
