Hi Sacha.
You mean in the bag, or just piled up out of the bag ?

Piled up out of the bag is fine. A lot of people do this anyway because

the
rain washes out impurities and/or weed seeds (if you're lucky!) You could
always collect the watery run off in a bucket and add it to your watering
regime. ;-)

could bung it in a old bath raised up off the ground with some worms added
to chew through it. Bung a container under the plughole and collect up any
water seepage and use as a liquid fertiliser. I store my horse poop in
plastic compost bins, takes months for the worms to chew through therefore
lasts a long time in poop form.

Storing horse manure ?

A friend of mine has provided me with 4 bags of horse manure for my
veg plot. There's a fair chance I wont use it all straight away - any
ideas how long it will store, and how best to store it ? Currently its
sat in plastic horse feed bags.

You sure you can't use it all? Anyway assuming you can't, it'll probably get
better with age, like a fine wine!

You either have very big bags or a very small plot. We spread two large
tipper trailer loads of horse manure on a different quarter of our allotment
each year (4 year rotation), it's 4+ inches deep at least. Then we rotovate
it in and plant that quarter with the spuds, amongst other things. You can
see the soil has changed colour, gone darker, blacker, by the next spring.

However you decide to store it there will be nothing like 4 bags later on.

I have a fairly small plot, and the soil level is rising wih each
year. I could use all of the manure, but will have to dig out some of
the soil to make way - seems a bit of a waste of last years manure...
if you know what i mean ?
Do you think I should just dig it out anyway ?

It will last almost forever in a bag, if you leave it and use it next year
it will be fine.

Which will mean nothing, it is just rotting down, not losing any of it's
advantages.

Actually, it's one of the least smelly forms of manure, IME. Cow and
chicken are far worse.
