Default Water Gel

Any thoughts on 'over using' water gel granules in hanging baskets, any
downside on using lots, (except for the cost)
This year have experimented, have seven 18" baskets, and those in the sun I
have used three times the recommended dose, south facing wall, watered twice
daily, from a small bore pipe running around the house.
