Apparently they've got some good wine deals at present, too.

Their more expensive Aussie Shiraz is excellent.

In the Lidl in Issoire, they have Gailliac, a white wine. I was
introduced to this some years ago and it is a lovely day to day white
wine, but certainly not vin ordinaire. It is delicious chilled to
within an inch of its life. Lidl in France are selling it for 1 Euro
something, a similar wine in the UK would cost in the region of around
£8-9 per bottle. I don't know its keeping qualities, Edward is going
to ring one of the vinyards, if it is a keeper, we are going to put
down a few crates.

I have to make a trip in that direction at the w/e so I'll try to get in
there and have a look. *They're on the outskirts of Torquay.

We bought some good Bordeaux from Lidl last year.
One problem is that if you a buy a bottle to take home and try and it turns out
to be good, the whole lot has sold before you can get back for more.
*Since they sell more or less the same wine all over Europe, it's worth
comparing notes.

Martin, do you have the name of that particular Bordeaux? Lidl in
Issoire are selling Bordeaux for around 3 Euros today, if it is any
good, based on what you say, I will go and get some.

Haut Medoc Cru Bourgeois Chateau D'Arsac 2004 and
Haut Medoc Cru Bourgeois Chateau De Cach Cuvee Lagrave 2006

We noticed that not only is Lidl wine more expensive in UK than in NL, but also
that the same wine is younger.

Thanks Martin, 2004 should just be about ready to drink now, the 2006,
I would put down for a while. I will get both, thank you.

They always seem to have the Shiraz. Comes with a (plastic) chrome label
with a Big Shiny Oz on it.

Their 2000 was the best so far, and I bought two cases of it, but it
wouldn't lay down...

I was told around £4 but I haven't tasted the stuff yet. ;-)

Not tried LiDL's wines, and I drink very little these days, but ALDI
have a Baron St Jean red at about 4 GBP which suits me, because I like
light wines. Most folk would call it "thin", but it's very
inoffensive. ;-)

The white equivalent I find undrinkable, having tried a couple of
bottles.

They haven't, I telephoned, they have some Bordeaux but too young and
too green, even at 3 Euros, I wouldn't bother buying it unless it was
recommended.
