Secrertary of the allotments says he's just heard today the govt is

Possibly related to the proposed charges for large scale composters - previously exempted for 1000 tonnes per year, but DEFRA are proposing a reduction of the limit to 40 tonnes per year and with a £50 charge for an exemption certificate. Either they get rid of our waste which costs them or we are encouraged to compost which saves them money. |

I also have to pay an annual charge of, IIRC, £29.00 for the service - but it does save me going to the tip. This arrangement started about 2 years ago. The green bin is collected, as is the food waste which goes in a separate bin provided by the Council, weekly. Works well and if you don't want a 'Green Wheelie bin' you can buy sacks for garden rubbish. Seems somewhat of a cheek to expect people to buy the bin and/or be charged annually for this sort of thing, given that the LA would (presumably) rather people did this so as not to have to landfill it. The missing one found it's own way home. We have 2 grey 1 green 1 red for chemical waste Chmical? What comes under that heading? Glass is disposed of elsewhere. Same here. Heavy rubbish is collected on request. Same here, with a £10 charge. Paper is collected once a week by a local sports club who have been paid to do it by the local authority ever since there has been a world used paper surplus.
