Default Mulberry tree leaves gone brown

Hello all

We have a black mulberry tree in our garden
(Alsace, France, light clay soil, not very acid).
The tree is now about 10 years old.
Until about 3 years ago it was always very healthy.

Now - starting as early as mid July -
its leaves start looking very dry, autumnal, and scruffy.
And its fruit isn't as good as it used to be either.

I might have caused this myself.
I decided about four years ago
to lop off the central trunk
to give the tree a more spreading goblet form.

Any ideas what the problem might be
- apart from the gardener ?

Best regrads from Ray
