Default runner beans

Hello,

was after some advice for my runner bean plants, they r still producing at the moment but dont think it will b long till they r finished for the year.
i have heard somje people say that u should cut them above the soil and let the roots rot down in the soil????

i have been growing them in a large pot for the last 2 years and they have done very well, should i be thinking about changing the soil altogether or let the roots rot down and use same soil again next year???

any advice would great thanks!!!
