Absolutely disgusting, they wouldn't do it with roses so why water lilies. Labelled like that you have no idea what variety you getting, how it will grow, and if the flower colour and shape is what you want. The man that inspired Monet to paint his lilies, Joseph Bory Latour-Marliac, must be spinning in his grave. Rod Is this the bit where I say support your Nurserymen?! ;-) Seriously, there's good and bad in both areas but usually, Nurseries are run by people who love the whole subject and know something about it. Some - not all - gcs are just supermarkets for plants and what is annoying is that they are not necessarily cheaper. On top of that, I get out the blood pressure monitor when Ray sees those "X plants for £15" adverts in newspapers & magazines. Too often, those plants are either plugs or so small that they need a lot of cosseting before they can be planted out but unhappily, not too many people pick up on that beforehand. -- Sacha The price is set buy what the customer will pay. If the customer is quite happy to pay £X x 10 and the cost is £X x .5, then that is what business is all about. Yes I know the varieties of every plant family on sale in the sheds and multiple GCs seem to be reducing but my point is to just say Red or Yellow with no variety mentioned at all is absurd. What does the leaf look like, is it red or green, has it splashes of colour, are the petals broad or spiky, what does it smell like, .... rant over. Daniel got a Japanese maple when he was born, Bejamin got a cherry tree twig. We killed the maple last year. :-( The cherry tree is about 8' tall atm. Not sure what to do with the maple, whether to replace with the same or not. |

Rod I think the complaint was about the imprecision of the labelling, not the lack of variety. To add to the list of imprecise labelling, selling Hibiscus syriacus as red ('Woodbridge'), blue ('Oiseau Bleu') and white (not sure which one this was).
