Extremely useful if you have somewhere to mount one.

Up to 20 m or so just learn how to hand coil it properly. Longer is
probably best dealt with by "figure of eighting" it on the ground.
Kinks come from embedded twists in the hose, coiled properly or fig
of 8'd there are no embedded twists.

I burnt my wallet about 3 years ago and bought a hozelock wall mounted
auto retracting 40m hose thingummy (yellow 'heavy duty' hose).

I have to say it works really well - and it says it is 'guaranteed' not
to kink. It certainly hasn't kinked so far, and the retracting
mechanism has been really good. It was expensive but to me, well worth
it.

I was seriously fed up with manual retraction to a reel that seemed to
always end up with hose left over; and always having to be bent double
to do it; and never managing to get the reel to stay put when winding
hose in.

All that said, I'm sure it was considerably cheaper than I've just seen
it on Amazon (£105) -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hozelock-2595-Auto-Rewind-Hose/dp/B0046REBS0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377253783&sr=8-2&keywords=hozelock+retractable+hose

I seem to recall it was around £75, from a Wyevale, almost certainly on
a special offer and the cheapset I could find it at the time.

What you are used to. My day job involves laying out and collecting
back in dozens of cables from 1/4" to 1" dia and up to 50 m in
length. You don't want to get that lot in a tangle if you can help
it, delays getting to the pub!

So handling a 50 m hose is second nature. B-)
