Default Bulbs?

This spring I planted some Allium bulbs in plant pots.
Next year I want to put the bulbs in different plant pots.
Do I transfer the bulbs when they have stopped flowering, or do I dig them
out of the pots, keep them in a dark place and replant them next year?
As you can guess, I'm not wonderful at gardening. But I try hard!

Thanks for any help.
