Hi All,

We are having a sad time in the garden, the pond we had with all the frogs
in is empty now, they have all died!! The last we found last
night............................

Over the last 4 weeks we have been finding the frogs dead by the pond.... I
have been informed that there is some kind of outbreak happening which is
killing all our webb toed friends .

Anybody else got this happening? Someone said it was something called
"redspot", not sure?

Any ideas on how we can stop this?

Red-leg disease. I believe is first appeared in the UK along the Sussex
Coast, 6-7 years and has been spreading. I understood that it probably
originated in the US and was spread here by the import of US amphibians
for pets, which where then released (or escaped).

I am not aware of any cure or prevention. However, the spread can
probably be slowed by not moving frogs/spawn from place to place.

More generally, amphibians are under threat around the world. In most
cases, it seems that human activity is either directly or indirectly
responsible - loss of habitat, increases in UV, drainage and so on.

That's very sad. It sounds like redleg, a viral disease. Where are you?
