Where do i put frogs??
Hi All,
The title of the thread seems a bit silly but I don't know what to do with all the frogs Im finding. Last week I found a teeny green guy in my back porch, don't have a clue how it got in there, it was pouring rain outside that night. Anyway, as I don't have a pond or anything else like that in the garden I was surprised to see it. I put it outside on the grass not quite knowing what to do with it. I thought that was the end of it but about three days later I found another one, again in the back porch, but it was much bigger than the first and to cap it all last night we found an enormous green/beige one in the dogs run, lucky the dogs weren't in there as it was too big to come out through the holes in the cage, this guy was about the size of my closed fist. I have no idea where they are coming from, how they are getting into the places they're being found and what to do with them when I find them, I put the big guy in the ditch at the back of the house so the cats or indeed the dogs wouldn't find him. Was this right?..why are they here when we have no pond?...The nearest river would be about three miles away, where are they originating? Thanks Shannie |

They are looking for somewhere sheltered to spend the winter!! How many sheltered places does your garden have? They only use a pond, really, in the breeding season. -- Jane Ransom in Lancaster. Thanks Shannie Frogs roam around quite a lot and are generally pretty happy with damp shade. Water is only needed for breeding. Come winter, they 'hibernate' quite happily under stones, in compost heaps, etc. As long as it's damp and dark, they'll spend the winter months there. Newts and toads similarly. -- Larry Stoter |

We have had frogs in our garden for years. The nearest water is a mile or so away. When we find them we just guide them towards a dark, damp, cool, area of the garden. Some of the larger, more colourful ones sometimes get a photo shoot before they go. Don |
