When in doubt, with most things after it's done flowering is a good starting
point. Then if this isn't the best time for your particular type, you will
have done minimal or no harm and given it maximum time to recover for next
year.

Most things aren't too fussy as long a you're not aiming for professional
standards. They have to be able in nature to deal with things like flood,
fire and being eaten or trodden on by animals etc.
