Is it unusual that there are bright green caterpillars on my viburnum right
now?

Yes - it's usually a bit cold for caterpillars. But they'll be welcome
food for small birds like tits, so leave them!

Default Caterpillars

Hang a bag of peanuts in teh tree this will attrct small birds like tits and
they will then see the caterpillars and eat the lot.
I have done this many times and it works a treat.
