Hi all,

thanks for the continued replies.

Assuming that I have just 'grass' with no pernicious weeds is it ok

just to dig
the whole lot over to create beds and then weed regularly

as I go without
lifting the turf.

You won't find it as easy as it sounds as you always end up with bits of
grass poking up from the edges and they always GROW :((
I would use the doubleDigAndPutSodUpsideDownInBottomOfHole approach.

In fact the other weeds will be less of a problem than the grasses. Keep
the hoe moving and don't let unwanted plants develop to any size,
especially don't let them seed. The job will become easier each year,
but there will always be some self invited greenery on your patch.
