Can anyone think of any more? Please, please, please, DO NOT call it Holly. If I hear of one more dog named Holly, I'll scream --- probably because my daughter is named Holly (she was born at Christmas). IMHO, dogs should have "proper" dog names, like Rover, Spot, Scruffy, Lady, but not "human" names. |

Thankyou Hi MallowKat, To some extent I agree with the others - it shouldn't be too flowery. How about Hazel, Kerry (as in Kerria), Linden or Cherry. The name, whatever you choose, must be a strong calling and training name. You could just call her Patch, of course, in recognition of the effect she will have on your lawn! Sorry - couldn't resist it. Spider |

Janet. Such as Bo, Fig, Ivy, May, Pia, Sal? Erm, Ivy and Pia have two syllables..collies can count, you know. Classic monosyllable working-collie names are Meg, Nan, Moss. Maybe Moss or Fern would do. Incidentally, one of my retrievers is called 'Holly' - but Ditsy's not in Chambers, and is a word I've not come across before. Which particular Labrador trait is it describing? Ditsy appears in my Chambers (Concise, 1991 edition). "US colloquial; amiably eccentric, scatterbrained, precious, affected". Janet. |

This all reminds me of when in the late 60's just after I had got married.
We were living in a flat in Hastings, and were coming home one Sunday afternoon, Just got out of the car when this Little child from a few doors down ran out of her gate chasing a puppy as fast as her little legs would allow. She was follower shortly after by her very embarrassed mother....... Why embarrassed? I hear you ask. Well.... As she chased the pup she was calling out "Come here piddle pup, come here piddle pup". Children....don't you love them. David Hill Abacus nurseries www.abacus-nurseries.co.uk |
