How to annoy the pigeons?

If it`s a nice fat wood pigeon, eat it. IMHO they are tastier than poultry.

I think you'll find that, unless things have changed greatly in this world
since last I looked, pigeons are poultry.

Dave.

They would be if they were being bred for the table or for eggs.
Poultry are domestic, farmyard or game birds. Pigeons are a variety of
dove and when kept in captivity it is usually for racing purposes.

A reasonable disposal method is to pluck, gut, wrap in silver foil and pop
in the oven with the Sunday roast. The breasts are small but tasty.

The breasts are the only worthwhile part (IMHO) so we just tear them
off and cook them on their own. Much simpler, no plucking or gutting
etc,

Ove the past few years there has been a dramatic decline in the pigeon
population around here. At harvest time enormous flocks flying home in
the evening were common but not any more. Some put it down to farmers
herbicide. Ive heard it claimed it can upset their internal
temperature control system in some manner.

We have a few residents but also a local bird of prey who downs them
regularly. The Jackdaws hop around and await their turn while he/she
feasts.

In some U.S. cities, peregrine falcons have been naturalized with
considerable success, much to the detriment of the pigeon population.

I have only the occasional morning dove; their country cousins.

My new kitchen garden is being watched by half a dozen pigeons from
their favourite rooftop about 40' away. I also have a couple of resident
blackbirds.

I'm planning my crops and I want to annoy and disappoint them :-) What
do the team suggest?

Currently I have/planned:

Apple tree Ashmeads Kernal planted
Blueberry Bluecrop planted
Broad Beans "The Sutton" and "masterpiece green longpod" planted
Courgette "Zuccinni F1" planned
Field Beans as a cover crop/green manure planted
Gooseberry Leveller planted
Leek Musselborough planned
Physalis (Cape Gooseberry) planned
Radish Saxa
Raspberry Autumn Bliss planted
Strawberry Aromel planned
Tomato gardeners delight planned

Comments?

Also, none of the pigoens have landed in the garden yet but if they do,
can I legally shoot them with my air rifle?

Thanks!

Just having a good read after being away for while (surgery). Last
time I asked about getting rid of pidgeons I got told off - well, sort
of, along the lines of "oh I see, you like birds in your garden as
long as they are not pidgeons". This area is full of them and I
can't feed the blackbirds as the pidgeons are always there first and
making an awful mess to boot. Di

If I can help with my air rifle just mail me. I know lots of other people
country wide that may be able to sort your pigeons out. If you are anywhere
near northwest I will come and do it myself free.

It helps when replying to a post that is 15 years old that you at least
quote part of the post that you are replying to. You may have read an
posting archive yesterday but the rest of us may have forgotten what was
written a decade and a half ago.

Ex London Mayor Ken Livingstone described pigeons as “rats with wings”
and for very good reason. Get one or two in your loft space and you
will understand. Get a flock regularly roosting on your roof and you
will understand.
