Unhappy hovaria

i bought a hovaria(a type of hydrangea) last year which flowered beautifully..alas i pruned it......and the growth this year is not so good..will it recover?........

Yes, just give it time - and don't be so hasty with the clippers in future
and don't prune in the growing season (though I'm not sure when that is,
Sacha will know, spring/summer I would have thought - you're probably safe
to prune in the autumn).
