Default What to plant?!?

Hey there everyone,
I'm new around here, although I've been reading the odd post for a few
weeks. My father gave me the job of finding out what to plant in a
certain place.
Info about the location:
about 40' Long, 2-4' wide.
Evergreen hedge directly to west of location (not sure what they're
called, but they are all over the place!) - roughly 10ft tall.
White painted building to east of location - about 6' away.
Based on this, I would say that light would be fairly scarse, but quite
a bit would reflect off the white wall in the evening.

The soil is quite well drained.
Can anyone suggest what would be suitable flowers/plants to plant here.
I mainly want something which will look good, and require little
maintainence, however if possible I'd like some sort of fruit producing
plant in there :-)

The plants/flowers should be no more than 3' tall.
If anyone has any suggestions, or knows anywhere I can find suitable
candidates, I'd be very thankful if you could post it here,
Thanks in advance,
JohnnyJ
