For the sort of pressure your talking about out of a water butt its
barely significant I should think. If you need it emptied fast, why not
just buy a piece of wider diameter hose thats long enough? Or add an
overflow tank?

We've already cut a second hole to add a second hose to increase the
volume of the overflow -- and (just as important) direct it to two
different bits of the garden :-)

Only other type of connectors I can think of are the 'push fit' ones are
really meant to be semi permanent. They may have a larger internal
diameter than the Hozelock system.

Clearly I'm mistaken in my assumption that the Hozelock ones could
restrict flow, so I'll revert to those.
