Hi all,
Could somebody please identify this plant for me? I have placed an
image on my web space:
http://www.btinternet.com/~bananaland/test/DSC01124.JPG 380 KB
The plant has wire, spring-like, shoots that wrap around anything
that is near.
Without some indication of scale (size of flower or leaflet), a
positive ID might be difficult. But it could be the common vetch
(vicia sativa) which is a wild native species. It dies back in
winter.
The flowers are only about 10mm wide at the moment. I think they
have
just come out.
I threw some Sweet Pea seeds in that area around Feb/March time and
am wondering if that is them? I know they should have been planted
properly but where I live, the gardens are taken care of by a
contracted company.
Hi,
I went out and had a look at my 'everlasting' sweet pea and it has two
big leaves emerging from the stem bracts. That was what made me
suggest the vetch which does have 4 to 8 leaflets each terminated with
a tiny 'spike' and the slightly downy appearance which shows up on the
image. Also a 10mm wide flower would link up with the wild vetch. The
Sweet pea flower might average about 40mm, with show varieties even
bigger.
:-) You are just going to have to give it its head this year and see
what transpires.
