Hi Paul - is bamboo more hardwearing, is that what you mean? I wonder
if it would look a funny colour against dark wood?

Our pergola, which was made and erected by the local blacksmith, has a vine
growing over it which achieves shade in summer and lets the light in in the
winter. Very effective. It's been in place over ten years now.
