I have seen the guys down here use everything from pure Turface to
garden soil. I personally seem to have the best luck with Metro Mix 500 a
coir/peat based commercial soil that also contains ash, vermiculite and sand.
As to the wood preservative I think a product called "Get Rot" is the
best choice since Bougie wood rots very quickly.
