My vigorous Virginia creeper has covered the walls of our house. If I don't cut 2-3 feet of growth off 3 times a year, it grows over the windows and into the gutter etc. I tried root pruning this spring, but it carries on just as vigorously.

Would chemical growth inhibitors help? Which one?
