Default growth inhibitors?

My vigorous Virginia creeper has covered the walls of our house. If I don't cut 2-3 feet of growth off 3 times a year, it grows over the windows and into the gutter etc. I tried root pruning this spring, but it carries on just as vigorously.

Would chemical growth inhibitors help? Which one?

Only one I know about is a product called 'CUTLASS' It is available in some
garden centres or by mail order and is supposed to reduce growth on hedges
and other plants that reqire regular cutting. HT Jim

Thanks for the pointer, Jim. However it appears this has just been removed from the market because it has not been through rigorous tests as demanded by the EU!

Anyone have other ideas?
