Close, but not as hairy as the one that looks like a bumble bee, and the
wings are flat like one of the pics as opposed to being swept back. I
tried to catch one in a jar but those little suckers don't let you get
very close before they are history. Again, the eyes are huge,
protruding and black. Guess its time to hit the library and its insect
books.

Hmmm, after looking at a whole lot of pics, it appears to be a Hover
Fly. Interesting bug for sure.
