Saw a bug on a Cosmos a bit ago that is the size of a yellow jacket
bee, same coloring as a bumble bee, in fact if you saw it quickly thats what you'd say it was, a BB. Tail is a bit longer and more slender than a bee & comes to a sharp point (no stinger I could see) and it has HUGE black round portruding eyes. Has wings etc. I've never seen the like before. Any idea what it is - good - bad or just a bugG? |

Sort of horse fly size, holds it's wings like a ridge on it's back rather than laying flat. I'll look for a pic of it. This ones wings lay flat along its body like a bee or fly does. Its the eyes that are so - creepy - looking, they kinda protrude and are pretty pronounced, and big. If anything I'd expect the eyes to be what most people would remember. |

Probably a Robber Fly, they come in a number of sizes and coloration. http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/benefi...lies/robber_fl ies.htm http://insects.tamu.edu/images/insec...mon/images/cd- 43-c-txt/cimg229.html -- http://www.geocities.com/larflu/zebra.jpg Lar. I tried to catch one in a jar but those little suckers don't let you get very close before they are history. Again, the eyes are huge, protruding and black. Guess its time to hit the library and its insect books. |
