Saw a bug on a Cosmos a bit ago that is the size of a yellow jacket
bee, same coloring as a bumble bee, in fact if you saw it quickly
thats what you'd say it was, a BB. Tail is a bit longer and more
slender than a bee & comes to a sharp point (no stinger I could see)
and it has HUGE black round portruding eyes. Has wings etc. I've
never seen the like before. Any idea what it is - good - bad or
just a bugG?

Probably a Robber Fly, they come in a number of sizes
and coloration.

Close, but not as hairy as the one that looks like a bumble bee, and
the wings are flat like one of the pics as opposed to being swept
back. I tried to catch one in a jar but those little suckers don't
let you get very close before they are history. Again, the eyes are
huge, protruding and black. Guess its time to hit the library and
its insect books.

Hmmm, after looking at a whole lot of pics, it appears to be a Hover
Fly. Interesting bug for sure.
