The message
from "Natalie" contains these words:

Your plant sounds like a Cornus commonly known as Dogwood.

Dogwood has black berries and the stems aren't (very) red. Otherwise,
spot-on. G

(Same family)

Our school has one growing in the front. Since I've taken over the grounds
maintenance from the Parks Department we now know how big it can grow if it
is not pruned every year ;-) Had to give it a bit of a trim yesterday as we
were getting complaints but left as much as I could so we can enjoy its
flowers and berries before seeing the red stems in full glory. It'll get a
heavy prune in the spring.
